Tour description:
Our adventure begins in Novi Sad, from a place that suits you and at a time that you choose.
We will drive over the Freedom Bridge and continue driving along the Danube and the Rakovac Dunavac towards Rakovac and the Beli Maidan Cave, popularly known as the Rakovac Cave.
The cave can be reached directly by car on a dirt road or on foot from the monument located next to the main road leading to Zmajevac. Be prepared for a bit of climbing up a steep slope to reach the great hall, but know that your efforts will pay off. The vault of the cave is as high as four meters and signs of volcanic activity are visible everywhere. The cave was most likely created by excavating stone for the construction of the nearby Rakovac monastery, which we will also visit. A no less attractive view is also available from Zmajevac, a picnic area and viewpoint, where all travelers must stop for the fantastic view of Srem and Vrdnik. Zmajevac is also our next stop.
We continue our journey to the Vrdnica tower, which is believed to have been built during the Roman era, as one of the fortifications that served to protect Srem and the city of Sirmium. It is assumed that the tower was built by the Roman emperor Probus, who ruled from 274 to 282 AD. The tower was destroyed by the Hini in 441. It was later rebuilt, only to be destroyed by the Avars, and the last time it was destroyed by the arrival of the Turks in Srem, at the beginning of the 16th century, after which it was abandoned.
In the continuation of our adventure, we will visit Bešenovacko Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes on Fruška Gora.
In the course of our jeep adventure, we will also visit the Mala Remeta monastery, which according to tradition was built by King Dragutin Nemanjić and dedicated to the Feast of the Shroud of the Virgin. What is characteristic of the monastery church is that it was built without baroque influences, so it represents an example of the Serbian-Byzantine style of architecture.
As part of the adventure, we will visit Brankovac and Dumbovački waterfall (on request). However, we must mention that a visit to the waterfall requires solid physical condition and adequate clothing.
Depending on the departure from Novi Sad, we will have lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants in Fruška Gora, after which we will taste wine at one of the local wineries. (by recommendation)
We will return to Novi Sada when you want to (although in practice, hardly anyone wants to return home/to the hotel) after such a superadventure.
