This is proven by the numerous unknown martyrs from this period, whose tombs (martyriums) still exist today.

The tour Christian heritage of Niš will introduce you to the Christian shrines of this city, which from the first centuries of Christianity was the bishop's seat, and in the Middle Ages - the seat of Metropolitan. That is why Niš is Big prepared for you a four-hour tour of the most representative Christian heritage of this city. The tour includes a visit of the cathedral church of the Niš Diocese dedicated to The Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles (built 1856-1877); The old Church of the Council of the Holy Archangels (built 1815-1819); The ancient Christian Church of Saint Nicholas, in which the relics of Saint Prokopius, the early Christian saint, were kept until 1386. This shrine, since the fall of the city under the Ottomans (1386) till its liberation from them (1877), has been adapted into mosque or vice versa into church for 6 times; The Temple of St. Panteleimon, the endowment of the grand duke Stefan Nemanja, with a miraculous water spring where Nemanja’s army was healed in 1189; Early Christian tombs with frescoes in the courtyard of the English Orphanage (one of the most beautiful pearls of early Christian fresco painting); Remnants of martyrium with a basilica of imposing dimensions, in Jagodin-mala quarters, destroyed during the Great invasion of Attila’s Huns (441); Latin Church (Gornji Matejevac), one of the most beautiful temples of late antique and early Byzantine style in Europe.
