Tour description:
The departure is in front of the Leotar hotel at 9:00 AM. Mountain bikes, helmets and your guide will be waiting for you.
In front of us is a 16 km trail with very small inclines, suitable for cyclists who are not in shape. Once upon a time, this trail was a narrow-gauge railway, but today it has been transformed into a very interesting cycling trail, the most beautiful in Trebinje, and probably the most beautiful on the entire Herzegovinian Ćiro trail, which extends from Mostar to Dubrovnik, Trebinje and further to Bileća and Montenegro.
We will cycle through the city along the Trebišnjica river bike trail to the first attraction - the medieval Arslanagić bridge (a national monument). We make a short break here to hear something about the most famous old building in Trebinje.
We join the Trebinje-Jazina Ćiro trail, which is mostly of a dirt road surface, which is a distinctive feature of the rugged Herzegovina. It is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, rich in aromatic herbs whose fragrances you will absorb while cycling or walking towards new and unexpected sights with a smile. On our right is the green Trebišnjica river, once the longest sinkhole in Europe.
Soon we arrive at the walls of the medieval city of Mičevac. We take a 10-15 minute break, enjoying the view of Lastva Lake and the surrounding hills - Leotar, and Golo Hill and observing Austro-Hungarian towers on each of the peaks. You will learn the story and anecdotes about the history of this once-great city that no longer exists.
We continue along the Lastva Lake (once the canyon of the Trebišnjica river), with the undisturbed wilderness of the Orjen Nature Park on our right. Above us, the canyon is deep and winding like some giant serpent, and its shores are covered by dense forest. If we realize the tour in the early morning hours, sometimes bears can be seen by the lake. The river and lake are rich in fish, primarily stream and rainbow trout, making them a popular destination for many fishermen.
We reach the tourist undiscovered cave of Mlinica, from which springs a very strong stream that flows into the river Trebišnjica. We enter the first part of the cave and enjoy the sound of water flowing through the darkness of the cave and the chirping of birds in front of the entrance. In the hot summer months, it is a real refreshment to wash in the clean water of the stream and to be in the cool cave air. In the cave, we often see the down - a cute mammal with an ornate tail.
Ahead of us is probably the most interesting part of the trail that leads through the village of Donje Grančarevo and past the Lastvan lake, which is the widest here. We will see the old iron bridge over the lake, and soon we will reach one of the main attractions of the tour - the big railway bridge. On the bridge that is high above Trebišnjica, we will take a 10-minute break and hear an interesting story about the river Trebišnjica. From the bridge, there is an extraordinary view of the river Trebišnjica and the lake into which it flows. The surrounding hills are covered with pine forests, from which rocky peaks rise.
We cross the bridge and enter a shorter tunnel, then visit the picturesque village of Ušće, which is located at the confluence of the two rivers Trebišnjica and Sušice. This village is unusual in its appearance, which differs from typical Herzegovinian villages, which are all harshly rocky but beautiful. Ušće is tame, it has a slightly cooler climate and the widely known Tsarske vineyards. We will visit one of the vineyards where you will hear a very interesting story about imperial wine.
After the vineyard, we move upstream along the river Sušica and reach our final destination - the village of Jazina and Sušićke stapove. We will see the stone dams on the river Sušica that locals have built for irrigation. Sušica is a true pearl of nature (belongs to the Orjen Nature Park) and has crystal clear water, whose emerald green colour leaves no one indifferent. We will go around the sticks, and the waterfalls on them, and if the weather is nice and warm, we will bathe in the river. Refreshments at the end of the tour! :) If we're lucky, we might even see cute timid otters.
At the end of our adventure, according to your wishes, we can also organize lunch - we definitely recommend homemade delicacies - grilled trout, prosciutto, skripavac cheese, priganice, etc.
After lunch and a break, we will return you organized by car or bus, depending on the size of the group, to Trebinje (Leotar hotel).
