Tour description:
Whether you arrive the day before or meet at the gathering point in the center of Bački Monoštor at 9 a.m., you’re in for a fantastic day in a unique biosphere reserve recognized by UNESCO.
The tour departs at 9:00 a.m. from the center of Bački Monoštor. After deciding on your preferred mode of travel—by personal car, bike, or on foot—we will visit a family that has practiced beekeeping for generations. With the best homemade honey brandy, local juices, and honey cakes, you’ll discover the rich tradition of beekeeping and learn some fascinating new facts about bees.
The close connection between the people of Monoštor and the surrounding nature will be presented to you by a young artisan who crafts unique decorative and functional objects from wood and other natural materials. His skilled hands give new life to wood through carving techniques, and you'll be amazed by his creations made from deer antlers, one of the symbols of our forests.
In the local ethno-house, you will get a glimpse into how the people of Monoštor lived over 100 years ago, with the opportunity to explore a traditional earth-built house. Next, we head to the Special Nature Reserve "Gornje Podunavlje," also known as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve "Bačko Podunavlje," where a walk or bike ride through the forest, a boat trip, and a photo safari await.
These forests are home to the largest population of swamp deer in Serbia, along with black storks and white-tailed eagles, which are protected internationally. At the famous restaurant "Kod Švabe," you’ll be able to try what we are renowned for—a fish stew with homemade noodles, all enjoyed by the riverbank of the Danube’s side channel, just a kilometer from the Croatian border. After lunch, there will be a short break followed by a boat ride. While gliding along the Danube’s side channel, you’ll experience the harmony of water and forest, and with a bit of luck, you may spot turtles, dragonflies, fish, beavers, and a variety of birds. When the water level allows, we enter the mighty Danube through a small channel, resembling a lush green Amazonian tunnel.
Cruising along the Danube showcases the beauty of this mighty river, and during the summer months, the sandbars form fantastic beaches with breathtaking views.
Returning to the village, it’s time to reflect on the day’s experiences with a drink at a local tavern, where we can chat a little more before leaving this peaceful oasis.
