Tour description:
Come with us on a research trip in southwestern Serbia. The starting station is Užice or Zlatibor, and the first break will be on the beautiful Zlatar mountain, where we will stop to rest and enjoy the specialties of local cuisine that have been served here for breakfast since time immemorial.
After a break, we continue our journey to the Mileševa monastery, which was built in the 13th century. Right next to Prijepolje is one of the most important monasteries of Serbian medieval architecture, which is the endowment of King Stefan Vladislav Nemanjić. In the monastery church there is one of the most beautiful frescoes of the Greek Byzantine school of painting, and that fresco is the famous White Angel. When we finish the tour of the monastery, we continue our journey full of impressions.
The next destination is the Sopotnica waterfalls, a unique natural entity in this part of Serbia.
After visiting the waterfall, the ascent to the second mountain, Kamena gora, begins. When we arrive in the village of the same name, we leave the car there and start walking for about 1 km, and at the end of the road we will be greeted by an old pine tree. It has been there since time immemorial, as the locals say. It is a famous record tree. From the place where the pine is located, the view is of the nearby mountains. When we have enjoyed ourselves and breathed in the fresh mountain air, we return to the center of the village. It is possible to organize lunch in the village, and the main specialty is buckwheat pie, a type of wheat that only grows at high altitudes.
After lunch we return to our initial destinations, Zlatibor and Užice.
