Subotica is located in the north of Serbia, not far from the border with Hungary. Outstanding cultural heritage, richly decorated buildings in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style, multicultural spirit and European charm are the features that make this city different. Subotica is also called the city of Art Nouveau, because the city mostly got its present character in an incredibly short period of about 20 years at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The center and symbol of Subotica is the Town Hall, the heart of which is the Great Hall with gorgeous stained glass windows. The same Budapest architects, Konor and Jakab, also designed the Synagogue, one of the most valuable Central European achievements of this type of sacred architecture. It is characterized by bold and modern architectural solutions, stained glass decorations, as well as stylizations taken from Hungarian folklore, such as stylized rose, lily and carnation petals and peacock feathers. In addition to the Town Hall and the Synagogue, the Reichl Palace is one of the symbols of Subotica and a masterpiece in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style. With imagination and luxury, originality and style, the architect Ferenc Reichl decorated his family palace, which today houses the Gallery of Contemporary Art. Subotica is known for its relaxed atmosphere, good food and quality wines. Festivals, events, concerts, colorful cultural life throughout the year is one more reason to visit this city. On top of that, Subotica offers a lot of interesting places for rest and leisure, as well as for numerous activities around Lake Palić, at stables, farms, in forests and hunting grounds. Palić, the lake and village with the same name, is located only 8 kilometers east of Subotica. Extraordinary buildings from the beginning of the 20th century (Water Tower, Great Terrace, Women's Beach, Music Pavilion, Memorial Fountain, Villa Konen), beautiful Great Park, renovated luxury villas, beaches, zoo, excellent restaurants and cafes, sports and recreational fields, as and peace and quiet make Palić an ideal place for rest and enjoyment.
