Kosovska Mitrovica is a city in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, in the Republic of Serbia, at 42.89° north, 20.87° east, at 496 meters above sea level (confluence of Sitnica and Ibar). Kosovska Mitrovica is also a municipality with an area of ​​350 km². In addition to the city, the municipality also consists of 49 villages. Kosovska Mitrovica is the seat of the Kosovska Mitrovica administrative district. It is located in the north of the Kosovo basin, surrounded from the east, north and west by the Mokro Gora mountains and the slopes of Golija and Kopaonik. The river Ibar flows through the city, which divides it into the southern and northern parts, Sitnica and Ljušta. From the city to the north begins the Ibar gorge through which the Ibar flows towards Kraljevo, where it flows into the Western Morava.
