The monumental palace of the Roman emperor Galerius (Gaius Valerius Galerius Maximianus) was built in honor of his mother Romula, after whom it was named. Deciding to return to his native land towards the end of his reign, this Roman emperor who ruled from 305 until his death in 311, as one of the four emperors of the Roman Empire during the Roman Tetrarchy, as co-ruler of Emperor Diocletian, surrounded the luxurious palace with walls of 20 towers, and in it you can still see the remains of mosaics, temples, columns, thermal baths and a fountain in the center of the inner courtyard of his residence. His and his mother's graves can be seen on the dry hill. The archeological site, today also known as Gamzigrad, after the village in which it is located, has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List since 2007. The ticket costs 300 dinars, the guide service is very friendly.
