Bac is a township and the seat of the municipality of the same name in the South Backa District. It is 22 km from Backa Palanka, 62 km from Novi Sad, 120 km from Subotica and 140 km from Belgrade. This ancient city gave its name to the whole region - Backa. The first traces in written sources about Bac and the area around it date back to the period of Emperor Justinian when the lord of Constantinople and the emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire mentioned Bac in his letter 535. years. According to some chronicles, Bac was also the Avar Fortress in the 9th century (the word "Bac" is exactly what it means). By the turn of the first millennium into the second, Bac had already been built and fortified. During Arpadovic, Bac became not only the ecclesiastical seat of the archdiocese but also a royal city where aristocrats and rulers come to conventions, congregations, and assemblies. Today it is known for its fortress, a favorite tourist destination.
