The Žiča Monastery is located not far from Kraljevo and represents a real spiritual and cultural-historical treasure of our people. Because of its unique architectural style, it became a prototype for the construction of other endowments that were built by rulers and nobles from the Nemanjić family during the Middle Ages. Because of this, Žiča is sometimes called the "mother of all churches". History and tradition agree that the construction of the Church of the Holy Savior and the Žiča Monastery was encouraged by Saint Sava with the aim of spiritual revival of the country after a long period of conflict and discord that were the result of the struggle for power between Stefan and their third brother, Vukan. After the death of Stefan Nemanja, there was a reconciliation between the brothers and the creation of a single state, which was completed by obtaining the status of a kingdom. Then Sava also fought for the autocephaly of the Serbian archbishopric. For confirmation of the royal title and coronation according to Orthodox customs, Stefan Nemanjić chose exactly Žiča, where the royal crown was placed on him in 1219 by the newly proclaimed Serbian Archbishop Sava. Tradition says that on that occasion Stefan Prvovenčani ordered that all future Serbian kings be crowned in this monastery, which was done. The tradition goes on to say that for the needs of each coronation, a new door was opened on the church, which would then be bricked up. Through the centuries and demolitions, seven of these openings have been preserved, and it is believed that seven kings were crowned in this church.
