Mount Cer is located in the northwestern part of Serbia. It is 33 km from Šabac. The mountain got its name from the numerous trees of the cer tree. The mountain is quite wooded, but not inhabited, which is why the air on it is extremely clean. It is characteristic of the surroundings that everywhere you turn there is a lot of greenery, deciduous trees and low vegetation. Cer is rich in blueberries, wild strawberries, mushrooms and medicinal herbs, while in spring you can see the most diverse colors of meadow flowers. If you are in the mood for hiking and mountain climbing as well as visiting monasteries, you will be amazed by the history and glorious past of this area. The legend of Emperor Troyan and his five daughters Kosana, Koviljka, Vidi and Soka originated on Mount Cer, after whom the towns were named Soko-grad, Koviljača, Vidin grad and Kosana grad (on Cer). The name of the fifth daughter was Draga. There are three very important monasteries on Cer, the Čokešina Monastery, the Radovašnica Monastery and the Petkovica Monastery. Miloš Obilić also comes from these regions, more precisely from the village of Miloševac, it is believed that he built the Čokešina monastery church, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the First World War, a famous battle took place on Cer, which started on the night between August 15 and 16, 1914 and lasted until August 24, 1914, after which Šabac was liberated and the Austro-Hungarian army was driven out of Serbia.
