Probably the most famous village in Serbia, Tršić, is not only the birthplace of one of the most important figures in Serbian history, but also the absolute most visited rural settlement in Serbia. This small village is one of the first real Serbian "brands" when it comes to tourism, and it is located 7 kilometers from Loznica, on the way to Valjevo. This is also one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Serbia, and the preservation of this green environment has a lot to do with Tršić. In 1787, Vuk Karadžić was born in this village, a great reformer of the Serbian language and one of the first true cultural diplomats of his time. The biography of this self-taught teacher is one of the most impressive and interesting in Serbian history, and his work is so significant that no changes brought by the next two centuries, changes in political systems and cultural models, have shaken his authority. Vuk Stefanović Karadžić set the framework for modern Serbia through his basic work on cultural and educational institutions, reformer of language and letters, first book publisher, compiler of extremely valuable collections of folk art and the first Serbian Dictionary. A total of 35 scattered wooden houses that are connected by small paths that meander past wells, stalls and open fireplaces, in the authentic condition in which Vuk Karadžić himself described them in his works, make up this unique typical Dinaric Serbian village of the 19th century, in which you can walk today the past. The memorial museum and birthplace of Vuk Stefanović Karadžić preserves a wonderful ambience, which is also a cultural, ethnological and memorial exhibition. The room where he was born, worked and lived, where he created and listened to traditional fiddle players; sculpture and kačara and basket for corn, modest dimensions and basic simplicity of objects here will remind you that material riches are not the basis of great spirit, freedom, or achievement.
