The river Vapa rises in the village of Gradac, near Sjenica, at 1,040 meters above sea level. It originates from a whole network of rivers and streams, but it gets its main water from strong springs, the most significant of which is the one located at its source. Two small tributaries (Brnjička and Žitnička) flow into the source of the Vape River. At the very source of this river, about 1,000 liters of drinking water springs up per second, and the temperature of the water is about eight degrees. Legend has it that there are as many as 77 sources of the Vape River. At the first kilometer, it receives the Štavljanska river on the right, and somewhere in the middle of the stream, Jablanica and Grabovica. The Vapa River continues through the Vapa Field, flows near Sjenica and together with the Uvac River forms a large lake in the Uvac Canyon (Uvačko or Sjenica Lake).
