Sukovo Monastery is located near the village of Sukova, on the right bank of the Jerma River, not far from Pirot. It belongs to the Eparchy of Niš and is a cultural monument of great importance. Before the war, it was a men's monastery, and today it is a women's monastery. Otherwise, the century of construction and the founder of the monastery are unknown, while the monastery church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Based on the little preserved data, it is known that it was demolished several times, as well as that it was painted vividly in 1606. According to tradition, the present monastery church was built by Sali-bey around 1857. He built a new one on the foundations of the old church, as a sign of gratitude for the recovery of his son Emin. The Sukovo Monastery has been under state protection since 1968, and it has two frescoes that attract special attention, a depiction of St. Christopher with a halo and an animal head and a depiction of the Virgin with wings.
