Povlen is a mountain in western Serbia, about thirty kilometers southwest of Valjevo. It consists of several peaks, of which three are the most important: Mali Povlen (1,347 m), Srednji Povlen (1,301 m) and Veliki Povlen (1,271 m). It belongs to the range of Valjevo mountains, which are an extension of the Old Vlach highlands and stretch west from Valjevo towards the flat Mačva. The chain of mountains begins with Maljen mountain, which is followed by Povlen, Jablanik, Bobija and Medvednik, then Sokolska planina, Jagodnja, Boranja and finally Gučevo descends steeply towards Loznica. The mountains are not very high - the highest point of the range, Mali Povlen, reaches 1,347 meters - but they are difficult to pass. Dense forests and deep river canyons reluctantly give way to narrow and winding roads that lead to small villages hidden under the forest. A griffon vulture settled near the Trešnjica canyon under Povlen, for which, along with the canyon of the Uvac river, it is the only reliable refuge in these areas.
