Program Description:
A cruise on the Danube from Silver Lake to the Golubac Fortress and a visit to Tumane Monastery.
Departure from Novi Sad/Belgrade in the morning (around 07:30 AM from Novi Sad, around 08:45 AM from Belgrade). Travel via highway through Belgrade towards Braničevo.
Drive past Požarevac, Veliko Gradište, and Golubac to Tumane Monastery. Tumane Monastery is known for the healing powers of Saint Zosim. His hermitage is located about a kilometer from the monastery. The monastery complex includes a small zoo and a monastery hospitality area (restaurant) on the bank of a small river.
Free time for a drink in a restaurant where there are no fixed prices—everyone pays as much as they wish.
Return to Silver Lake. Free time for about 2 hours before boarding the boat.
The boat cruise will provide an unforgettable experience and a stunning view of the Danube coastline. During the three-and-a-half-hour cruise, you will have the opportunity to see Veliko Gradište, the confluence of the Pek River, and the riverside settlement of Požeženo, where every house is a small broom-making workshop. The Danube’s shore here is the most serene and a favorite spot for many excursionists throughout the summer. On the left bank of the Danube is the settlement of Moldova Veche, formerly a military fortress. Downstream stretches the large Moldava River Island (belonging to Romania), a specially protected area rich in flora and home to 72 identified bird species.
Certainly, the biggest attraction of this cruise is the Golubac Fortress, located at the entrance to the Iron Gates Gorge. Near Golubac, a limestone massif rises from the Danube, forming a unique gateway to the Đerdap region and marking the beginning of the Iron Gates area. For centuries, it has inspired poets and painters, and even today, it captures the attention of tourists.
Return to shore. Travel back to Belgrade/Novi Sad via the same route, with an estimated arrival around 10:30 PM. End of the program.
