Jewish Heritage of Subotica
Discover the Jewish heritage of Subotica, where history, architecture, and remembrance intertwine in a unique blend!During our private tour, we will visit the city’s most important Jewish landmarks and learn about the rich cultural and religious traditions of the community.
We’ll admire the magnificent Subotica Synagogue, visit the City Museum, discover the former centers of the Jewish community and explore historic private buildings.
Our walk continues at the Raichle Palace and along the Korzo, where masterpieces of Art Nouveau await, and we’ll end the day at the City Hall, enjoying the beauty of its ceremonial hall.
The tour is organized with a minimum of 2 participants, every day except Monday.
Subotica Synagogue – A Masterpiece of Hungarian Art Nouveau
The tour begins at one of Subotica’s most impressive buildings – the Synagogue.
While exploring the interior, we’ll learn about the history and importance of one of the largest synagogues in the world built in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style.
City Museum – The Legacy of Miksa Dömötör
After the synagogue, we continue to the City Museum, formerly the family palace of the notable Miksa Dömötör.
Here, we’ll explore defining periods in Subotica’s history and gain insight into its rich and diverse heritage. Monuments and Traces of the Jewish Community
We’ll visit the memorial to Gyula Brummer, the former Basch House, and the building of the Jewish Community of Subotica – all key sites in the social and cultural life of local Jewry.
Franciscan Church and Old Jewish Hospital
Our walk continues to the Franciscan Church, which, along with its monastery, offers a unique sight in the city center. If possible, we’ll take a look inside.
From there, we’ll head toward the old Jewish Hospital, which still stands today, though its function has changed – it currently houses a school.
Raichle Palace – A Gem of Art Nouveau
A short walk takes us to one of Subotica’s most remarkable buildings – the Raichle Palace. We’ll hear the story of architect Ferenc Raichle and admire the building’s unique forms and colorful ornamentation.
Korzo and Art Nouveau Palaces of Subotica
We continue along the city’s main pedestrian street – the Korzo, where we’ll discover the most beautiful bourgeois palaces from the early 20th century, echoing the elegance and lifestyle of that era.
City Hall and the Ceremonial Hall Visit
At the end of the Korzo, two of Subotica’s architectural symbols await us – the National Theatre and the City Hall. We’ll end our tour with a visit to the ceremonial hall of the City Hall, where we’ll enjoy its rich interior decoration and historical ambiance. Souvenirs and Gifts At the end of the walk, we’ll have free time for shopping – souvenirs and small gifts to take home a piece of Subotica’s special charm.
