Tour description:
The famous Serbian poet Jovan Jovanović Zmaj said that “God created Fruska gora while resting” indicating its stunning beauty. This beautiful mountain is the oldest national park in Serbia. It is also a religious centre with 16 Orthodox monasteries. Fruska Gora is considered to be one of the most important vine growing regions in our country. It was in the 3 rd century AD that the Romans brought the first grapevine to this region from South Italy. Since that time, the wine production has been one of the most important branches of economy in
the region. From the 18 th century, the wines from this region were exported all over Europe; from the end of the 19 th century, it was exported even to Canada and USA.
Today, we take you to a lovely town of Sremski Karlovci that is surrounded by endless vineyards. We shall visit the winery that belongs to Djurdjic family. Their vineyards are situated on the sunny slopes of Fruska Gora. They grow both white and red varieties of grapevine. Among the wines this family makes is also Bermet, sweet desert wine that is a flagship of this region. We shall have the opportunity to visit the vineyard and the wine cellar where the production takes place. In the end, enjoy the lunch consisted of typical Vojvodina’s dishes: goulash and poppy seed strudel.
