Tour description:
Departure at 9.00 from the agreed place.
We'll introduce you to the rich Slovak cultural heritage.
Slovaks are one of the many nations who've lived in this area for three centuries, that is, since the time when the Vienna Court decided to drain wetlands, build canals, and settlements for immigrants from almost all of Europe. Thus, Vojvodina became a "promised land" for many nations inhabited by Austria-Hungary in order to strengthen the bulwark of the defense of Christian Europe from Ottoman conquests. Thanks to that, as many as 25 different nations live in Vojvodina today and 6 different languages are in official use.
Upon arrival to Bački Petrovac, we'll rent a bike and take you for a ride to visit the largest evangelical church in the Balkans.
The rich tradition of Slovak people is also evidenced by the paintings of Vladimir Urbanchek, whose love for his hometown has always been a great inspiration for his work.
We'll show you some of the old crafts specific for this area, then we'll ride our bikes to Kulpin, a place 5 km away from Petrovac, where you'll immediately recognize the home of Jagodić from the famous series. In fact, it is about one of the numerous castles of the landowner Dundjerski family, one of the richest Serbian families in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
By the way, the Slovaks brought unusual combinations of flavors to Vojvodina, so for lunch, we will enjoy unusual combinations of meat with compote or sweet toppings, the famous kulen, strudels with poppy seeds and other specialties of this people. We take a lunch break in a restaurant with a long tradition.
We take a van or a mini-bus drive to Begec, where we'll have coffee, homemade elderberry, mint, or acacia juice on an authentic Vojvodina farm.
Return to Novi Sad is planned in the evening.
